I wanted to say ‘‘right on’’ about the abortion page. I've been there and I have to say that the real problem with the issue is that compared to the rest of the world the US is in the 18th century in terms of technology. I am one of the people that can't have kids anymore because safer abortion methods are restricted in our country. About the rape comment though, I don't agree. Having lived through it I can say that it isn't about impregnation but it is more about power. I just am glad to live when abortion is legal, because of that, that bastard didn't have the final power over my body and my life. Thank God for abortion.

Dear Echo,
Thank you for your kind words. You are completely right on all counts. Europeans have been using the abortion pill (RU480) for years, and it’s very safe and inexpensive. Regarding my 4/25/00 comment to M. Arthur that ‘‘a rapist is trying to fulfill the life potential of his sperm and that of the victims eggs’’, I didn’t mean it was the rapists conscious and immediate goal, but rather a byproduct of the subconscious subliminal genetic drive to reproduce. You are absolutely right that rape is all about power and control. In the future I’ll try to be more precise.

May I suggest that you also get yourself a handgun or other firearm and learn how to use it. Professor John R. Lott Jr. has extensively studied crime and its causes and solutions. In his book ‘‘More Guns, Less Crime’’, he points out the fact that the U.S. Department of Justice’s own National Crime Victimization Survey, states ‘‘the probability of serious injury from an attack is 2.5 times greater for women offering no resistance than for women resisting with a gun.’’

I would have liked to have sent you a personal e-mail, but wasn’t able to since you didn’t leave an e-mail address. Thank you for your comments,
